Position Overview

Sentinel Fertigation is a dynamic and innovative company committed to providing next generation precision fertigation management solutions that enhance farmer profitability and empower sustainable crop production. Optimal nitrogen management is core to our mission. In 2023 we are engaging in research trials to expand our nitrogen management solutions beyond grain corn and into additional crops including soybeans, potatoes, sugar beets, and cotton. As a Technical Agronomy Intern at Sentinel Fertigation you will contribute to these research efforts while supporting farmers and certified service providers in implementing our N-Time™ Fertigation Management System. Attentiveness, curiosity, critical thinking, and self-motivation will be critical skills for succeeding in this position. Responsibilities

  • Scout field trial sites weekly to collect data and gather tissue samples for analysis.

  • Perform field check-ins to a dynamic subset of enrolled fields at a regular cadence throughout the growing season.

  • Contribute to solving agronomic questions elevated by farmers and certified service provider (CSP) partners.

  • Manage relationships with partners including CSPs, farmers, and research collaborators.

  • Organize and help analyze research trial data.

  • Monitor N-Time™ to maintain a sense of crop development and identify any anomalies.

  • Support customers in implementation of N-Time™ FMS: software onboarding, explaining in-season analytics and recommendations, ensuring prescription functionality, etc.

  • Call on N-Time™ users and CSPs to ensure that they are having success and getting benefit from using the platform to help manage their operations

  • Attend and present at demo-days, farm shows, extension events, etc.

  • Identify new opportunities for our platform to grow and positively impact farmers

Qualifications

  • Sophomore, Junior, or Senior studying agronomy, crop science, soil science, precision agriculture, agricultural technology, mechanized systems management, agricultural engineering, agribusiness or other related discipline at a university or technical college.

  • Strong verbal communication, written communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills

  • Keen interest in use of technology to advance crop production techniques.

  • Awareness of precision agriculture concepts and imagery use in agriculture (grid sampling, management zones, variable rate input prescriptions, informed crop scouting)

  • Strong organizational capabilities

  • Self-starter with entrepreneurial spirit who is passionate about our mission.

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)

  • Diligence in learning and leveraging team and project management software in Microsoft Suite (Teams, OneNote, OneDrive, Planner, etc.)

  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

  • Experience in GIS, FMIS, Irrigation Management software preferred.

  • Experience in crop-scouting and data collection preferred.

Compensation, Benefits, & Schedule

  • Salary: $8,000 total delivered biweekly in equal increments

  • Duration: May 2023 – August 2023 (flexible with school dates)

  • Location: Lincoln, NE (preferred) or remote (NE, KS, CO)

Sentinel turns images of the crop canopy into fertigation recommendations that increase nitrogen fertilizer use efficiency.
